Lexi Myers No-Hits Gardner-Webb To Lead
Camels to Split
BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. --
Campbell's Lexi Myers no-hit the Gardner Webb Bulldogs in the
second game of an A-Sun doubleheader on Tuesday night en route to a
6-0 win for the Camels. The Camels (21-25, 5-11 A-Sun) scored two
runs in the second, third and fifth innings each. The Bulldogs captured game one by a score of
3-2 to earn a split of the league twin bill.
Myers walked just a single
batter and struck out six on her way to the no-hitter.
Erica
Willis, who led off the top of second with a double to right, later
scored on a passed ball to give Myers (10-10) all the run
support she would need. Lindsay Landry would single later in the
inning to score Paige Smith. Landry finished the game 3-for-4with 2
RBI.
Susan
Frank (1-6) took the loss, allowing four runs -two earned - while
surrendering five hits in 2.1innings.
Down 2-0 entering the seventh inning, Gardner-Webb got the
rally going when Allison Murphy led off with a single to right
field. Two outs later, Lani Shaffer hit into what should have been
a game-ending groundout. But Campbell missed stepping the bag at
first, allowing Shaffer to reach on the error and prolonging the
game. Riopel made the Camels pay for the miscue, as she blasted an
0-1 pitch to left center for her third home run of the season.
The last-ditch outburst made a winner of Stacie Reichert
(5-15), who was facing taking the loss despite allowing just two
hits. Reichert allowed two runs while walking five and striking out
five in 7.0 innings.
Riopel (1-for-3, HR, 1 R, 3 RBI), Murphy (2-for-2, 1R, 1 BB)
and Jenny Wallace (2-for-3) led the Bulldogs(12-32, 3-17 A-Sun) at
the plate.
One of the Camels' two hits was a big one, as Campbell got on
the board in the top of the first when Holly Harris hit a two-run
bomb to right to put the Camels up by two.
Harris
was the (6-8) hard-luck loser, as she surrendered three runs - none
earned - on seven hits over 6.2 innings.
The Camels will travel to Birmingham, Ala. for an A-Sun series
against Samford on Friday, April 18, the second game of their
three-game road trip. The first pitch is slated for 4:00 p.m. [Game One | Game Two]
