Caminati's Goal Breaks Record and Helps Kent State Top Campbell 3-0

Senior forward Lauren Caminati scored her second goal of the season in Kent State University's 3-0 win over Campbell University today to become the women's soccer program's all-time points scoring leader. Caminati now has 55 points in her career, moving past Nicki Downey (1997-2000), who tallied 54 points in four seasons.
The Golden Flashes win was their first of the season as Kent State won its opening game in the 2003 Kent State Soccer Tournament. Wright State University defeated Elon University 1-0 in the first game of the tournament. The Golden Flashes play Elon, tomorrow at 1 p.m., while Wright State takes on Campbell at 11 a.m.
Sophomore midfielder Jenn Frey got things started for the Golden Flashes, scoring off a feed from senior forward Lauren Covay, ripping a shot from 12 yards out into the left corner. Kent State carried the 1-0 lead into halftime.
Covay then assisted on KSU's second tally, heading a pass to sophomore Amanda Messer at the top of the box, whose diving shot went just inside the right post for a 2-0 Kent State lead.
Caminati then closed out the scoring with an outstanding individual effort, dribbling the ball up the left sideline, taking on three Campbell defenders, before gaining space and driving home a shot from 16 yards out that sailed into the upper right corner of the goal. The tally was the 22nd of her career, improving on her own school record.
Freshman Shannon Lynn went the distance in goal for Kent State, earning her first career shutout, making one save. CU's Erin Switalki turned away three shots. The Golden Flashes outshot Campbell 15-9 in the contest. [Box Score]
