Ohio Natives Lead Campbell To a 1-0 Victory
Over Wright State at Kent State Tournament
Erin Switalski Breaks Career Shut Out Record
KENT, OHIO -- Lauren Dittrich's goal in the 49th minute of play
lifted Campbell to a 1-0 win over Wright State in the Kent State
Tournament. CU keeper Erin Switalski made two saves to earn the
10th shut out of her career, setting a new school record.
The first half of play saw the Camels out shoot Wright State
11-1, but the match remained scoreless after the first 45 minutes
of play. WSU starting keeper Emily Flohre did her part, turning
away six CU shots in the first-half.
A little over four minutes into the second half, Danielle Hange
(Ashland, Ohio) fed Dittrich (Middleburgh Heights, Ohio) a pass at
the top of the box, she dribbled and sent a lob shot over the head
of WSU keeper Steph Comisar, giving the Camels the lone goal of the
match.
CU out shot the Raiders 18-7, while WSU held a 3-1 advantage in
corner kicks.
Switalski breaks the record previously held by Liz Neidlinger
(1993-1994). A native of Brecksville, Ohio, Switalski needed just
35 career matches to break the record. She has made 14 saves on the
season, and 155 in her career, placing her third in that category,
six behind Neidlinger for second-place.
The host Kent State Golden Flashes captured the tournament with
at 2-1 win over Elon in the "classic" type tournament
The Camels even their record at 2-2-0, while WSU's record falls
to 2-2-0.
The Camels will return to action on Wednesday as they host
regional rival UNC Wilmington at 7:00 p.m. at the Eakes Athletic
