Records Fall As Campbell Track and Field Competes at Duke Invitational

DURHAM, N.C. – Senior Heather Lee set school records in the 1,500 meters and the 3,000 meters and junior Mike Earle set a school record in the 3,000 meter steeplechase as the Campbell University track and field teams competed at the Duke Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

Lee broke the 1,500 meter record by .04 seconds with her NCAA provisional qualifying time of 4:28.09 on Friday. That time broke her previous school record time of 4:28.13 which she also set at the Duke Invitational. She finished fifth and was the fourth highest collegiate finisher in the event.

On Saturday, she set a new Campbell record in the 3,000 meters with her time of 9:42.42 which was almost 11 seconds faster than her previous record set back in 2001. Lee finished third overall and was the second fastest collegiate runner in the event behind Carol Henry of North Carolina.

Earle's time of 9:20.23 in the 3,000 meter steeplechase broke his previous school record time of 9:26.54 which he also set at the Duke Invitational last season. The native of Scarborough, Ontario finished sixth overall in his first steeplechase race of the season.

In addition to Lee and Earle, 16 other Campbell athletes set personal-best marks at the Duke Invitational.

The both Campbell track and field squads will return to action next weekend as they head to Chapel Hill for the Carolina Fast Times meet. [Complete Results]
