Heather Lee Earns A-Sun Runner-of-the-Week
Honors
MACON, Ga. After
setting two new school records at the Duke Invitational last
weekend, Campbell University senior Heather Lee has been named this
week's Atlantic Sun Female Runner-of-the-Week announced Assistant
Commissioner Devlin Pierce.
This marks
the third consecutive week a member of the Campbell track and field
programs has been honored with the recognition.
Lee, a
senior business administration major from Calgary, Canada, set a
pair of Campbell records this past week at the Duke Invitational to
win her first A-Sun Performer-of-the-Week honor of the season. She
ran a 4:28.09 in the 1,500 meters to break the old record by .04
seconds which she set at the Duke Invitational last season.
Her fifth
place finish (fourth among collegiate competitors) was also an NCAA
regional qualifying time.
Lee also
set a new Camel record in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:42.42
which was almost 11 seconds faster than her previous record set
back in 2001. She finished third overall in the event and was the
second highest collegiate finisher.
Currently,
Lee is the top-ranked 1,500-meter runner in the Atlantic Sun.
Heading into last weekend, she was ranked 10th in the East Region
and 28th nationally in the event.
Both men's
and women's track and field teams return to competition this
weekend when they head to Chapel Hill for the Carolinas Fast Times
meet on April 9.
