Women's Tennis Falls at ETSU, 5-2
JOHNSON
CITY, Tenn. - The East Tennessee State women's tennis team picked
up a 5-2 win in a home contest against Campbell University Friday
afternoon. With the win, the Bucs improved to 9-6 overall, 1-0 in
SoCon, while the Camels record drops to 7-3 overall.
The
Bucs took the lead by sweeping all three doubles matches to win the
doubles point.
Sylwia
Ziolkowska and Mariya Ilyina played at the No. 1 slot winning 8-5
in the contest against Campbell's Carmen Linder and Pascale
Veraverbeke. At No. 2 ETSU's Courtney McInnis and Jewel Aldea
defeated Georgiana Marta and Iva Stojancev 8-6, while Gemma Halim
and Jessica Irey went 8-1 in the No. 3 slot against Stacey
Batkiewicz and Colen Gore.
In
singles play, ETSU furthered their lead with a win from Ilyina at
No. 5. Ilyina won 6-3, 7-6 (5) over Veraverbeke. However, Campbell
tied up the score 2-2 with wins from Linder in the No. 1 slot (6-0,
7-6 (6)) and Marta playing at No. 3 (6-3, 6-4).
ETSU
claimed the last three points of the match with wins from
Ziolkowska at No. 2 (6-3, 7-6 (5)), Irey at No. 4 (6-1, 3-6, 6-4),
and Aldea at No. 6 (4-6, 7-5 (11-9)).
The
Camels will jump back into action on Saturday as they face
Tennessee Tech in Johnson City.
