Women's Soccer Draws at
East Carolina; Unbeaten in Last
Three
BUIES CREEK, N.C.
Freshman Danielle Mandela scored her first career goal and
assisted on Campbell's other goal as the Lady Camels and East
Carolina played to a 2-2 tie in women's soccer action Friday
afternoon.
ECU (2-3-1) jumped out
to a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute of play when Meghan
McCallion received the ball on a free kick and dodged her way
around three Camel defenders to place a shot in the upper right
corner of the goal. It was McCallion's second goal of the season
and the 22nd of her career.
CU (2-1-3) got on the
board just nine minutes later when Mandela took a pass from Susan
Persson from 15 yards to tie the game. The tally was the first in
the collegiate career for Mandela, who leads the Camels with three
assists for the year.
With the score tied at
1-1, Campbell's Cadian Lawrence scored her third goal of the season
when she found a loose ball in traffic off a Camel missed shot and
beat Pirate keeper Lindsi Troxler on the far post from three yards
out.
In the 56th
minute, ECU scored the equalizer when Melissa Penney served a
corner kick into the front of the box and Rachel Hils headed it
near post for the goal.
East Carolina out-shot
Campbell 16-11 for the game with both squads putting eight on goal.
Troxler and Campbell keeper Erin Switalski each recorded six saves
in 110 minutes of action.
The Lady Pirates will
be back in action on Sunday, Sept. 19 when they host Virginia
Commonwealth on Parent's Day at 2:00 p.m.
CU, unbeaten in their
last three games with a win and two ties, will next take the field
this Thursday to open Atlantic Sun play when they host Florida
Atlantic at 7:00 p.m. [Box Score]
