Dressler Places First in Tune-up for
Canada Summer Games
BUIES CREEK, N.C.
- Campbell runner Tara Dressler
recently won the 2000 meter steeplechase event in the Tri-Province
Track and Field Meet in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. Dressler, a
senior from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, fought windy conditions to
post a personal record time of 7:07.76 in the event beating the
second place finisher by over 12 seconds, in the race which serves
as a tune-up event for the Canada Summer Games in August.
"Winning at this meet gives me a lot of confidence going into
the Canada Summer Games," said Dressler. "Going there allows me to
better prepare for the games having seen the track as well as some
of my competition."
Dressler has already qualified in both the 2000m steeplechase
and the 5000m events for the Canada Summer Games held at the
Douglas Park Track.
Last season Dressler was one of the top performers on the CU
team, turning in a 3000m steeplechase time of 10:56.26 to finish
third in the Georgia Tech Invitational. With the second best time
on the team she missed out on qualifying for the NCAA East Regional
in Randall's Island, N.Y. by just four seconds.
Dressler has competed in the Canada Summer Games once before.
In 2001 when the games were held in London, Ontario, Canada, she
was one of the youngest competitors in the games. Although she ran
well she failed to make the finals in her events.
"Having been to the games before gives me more incentive to
perform well this year."
The 2005 Canada Games is dedicated to hosting an
athlete-centered, first class, national multi-sport event that will
advance sport development and community pride, while leaving a
lasting legacy of facilities, volunteerism, and enhanced sport,
culture, and youth development.
The Games will take place from August 6-20 in the City of
Regina.
