Leiset van den Heuvel Signs with Campbell
Women's Basketball
BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Leiset van den
Heuvel, of The Netherlands has signed an athletics grant-in-aid
with Campbell University, women's basketball head coach Wanda
Watkins announced on Thursday.
A graduate of Johan van Oldebounvelt High School, van den
Heuvel is the fifth player to sign with the Lady Camels this
year.
"Lieset is a promising player that will be a wonderful fit with
our present team," said Watkins, who enters her 25th
season at the helm.
In 2002, van den Heuvel was selected to the Dutch National U18
Girls Basketball squad. During the prior season, she was named her
club team's Most Improved Player.
"She is a hard worker who strives to improve her game on a
daily basis. She is a well-rounded individual that will be a
strong student-athlete for us as well," said Watkins.
Van den Heuvel competed at the club level, because Dutch
schools do not take part in athletic competition.
Listed at 6-foot-4, van den Heuvel will be the tallest player
to wear orange and black during Coach Watkins tenure at
Campbell.
She joins Lynisha Ochogu of Charlotte, N.C., Gara and Cara Bell
of Weldon, N.C., and Lauren Arthur of Alexandria, Va., as incoming
freshmen to this year's Lady Camel squad.
