Belmont Defeats Campbell 81-63 In Atlantic Sun Men's
Basketball
NASHVILLE, TENN.
Justin Hare led five Belmont double figure scorers with 20 points
and the Bruins defeated Campbell 81-63 Saturday evening at the Curb
Event Center.
Hare and Jese Snyder
teamed for 33 of Belmont's 51 first-half points and the Bruins led
by 26 at the break. Hare, a 6-foot-3 freshman, made 5-6 shots,
including a pair of threes and hit 6-6 foul shots for 18 points in
14 first-period minutes.
Snyder added 15
all in the first half Brian Collins had 13, plus six
assists, while Dan Oliver finished with 11 points and seven boards
and Josh Goodwin had 10 points for Belmont.
Ruell Pringle led
Campbell with 20 points, while Colin Hunt added 10. Comerlee Poole
grabbed 10 rebounds, his 11th double-digit board outing of the
year. The Camels were unable to get closer than 16 in the second
period.
Pringle and Hare
entered the game as the A-Sun's leading freshmen scorers. Pringle
hit 7-of-16 on the night, including 3-5 from 3-point territory and
3-3 from the line. Hare finished 6-10 from the floor, 2-4 from
long range.
Belmont (12-14, 11-7)
jumped to a 29-8 lead in the first 9:20, hitting five
three-pointers and converting seven Campbell turnovers into 16
points during the span. Snyder scored 15 points, including four
triples, and Hare came off the bench to tally 10 in the
stretch.
The Bruins shot 57
percent (16-28) from the field in the opening half, including
8-of-16 from 3-point range, and made all 11 of their free throw
attempts. Belmont turned 12 Campbell turnovers into 20 points
prior to the break.
Belmont handed Campbell
(2-23, 0-18) its 20th-straight loss and extended the Camels' A-Sun
road losing streak to 32 games.
Campbell shot 40
percent from the field (21-52) on the night. Belmont finished at
49.1 percent (27-55) from the floor, and made 11-30 threes (.367).
The Camels held a 34-32 edge on the glass, but committed 20
turnovers, which Belmont turned into 25 points.
