JACKSONVILLE,
Fla. Brennon Grogan had two hits, scored two runs and drove
in three more as North Florida defeated Campbell University 12-8 in
college baseball action Wednesday night at Harmon Stadium.
The
Ospreys led 10-1 after three innings, scoring six in the bottom of
the first and four more in the third. UNF had seven hits, including
a two-run double by Brooks West, to score the six runs in the first
frame. Five of the six runs scored by North Florida in the first
were earned, with one as a result of an error.
The
Camels scored a run in the top of the third, but UNF responded with
four more runs in the bottom half of the inning. Brennen Grogan,
who went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI, brought two runs in
with a single to right field.
CU
scored two runs on sacrifice flies by Tim Holt and Mike Priest in
the fifth and added a run in the eighth. The biggest inning by the
Camels didn't come until the ninth when they scored three runs.
Tim
Holt led off the ninth with a single and Priest followed with his
sixth home run of the season. The two-run homer by Priest cut the
deficit to four runs, but couldn't get any closer.
Five
Ospreys collected multiple hits on the night. Josh Howard led the
way with three, while Jon Skorpuski, Judd Loveland and Grogan each
had two hits against Campbell pitching.
Justin
Phillips extended his hitting streak to 12 games with two hits on
the day. Ricky Howard and Priest, who had three RBI, also had two
base hits against UNF.
Brooks
West (1-1) picked up the win for the Ospreys working 1.1 innings in
relief. West, who started the game at designated hitter, allowed
one run on two hits while on the mound. Starter Ryan Amason gave up
one run on four hits, but was not eligible for the win, throwing
just three innings.
Tyler
Sexton (0-2) took the loss for the Camels, allowing 10 runs, eight
earned, on 11 hits, while striking out one and walking one. This is
the second straight start that Sexton has allowed 10 runs, both
resulting in losses.
Freshman
Heath Bridgers, pitched for the second straight game for the
Camels, did not allow a run on two hits in three innings.
The
game featured 20 runs, 38 hits and nine errors. The Camels
committed a season-high five errors on the night that led to three
unearned runs, while UNF had four errors that led to two unearned
runs.
Campbell
(9-5) returns to action Friday night for the first of a three-game
A-Sun series with UCF. First pitch between the Camels and Golden
