Campbell Women's Soccer Looks to Reverse
Fortunes against Kennesaw State, ETSU
BUIES CREEK, N.C.- Campbell will
try to put an 0-2 weekend in Jacksonville, Fla. behind them this
weekend when they host Kennesaw State Thursday, and East Tennessee
State on Saturday at the Eakes Athletic Complex.
Campbell has been plagued by
a lack of scoring this year, as they have managed only seven goals
in 11 games. The Camels are led by freshman Kaili Terry and senior
Jessica Tacha, who each have two goals and one assist (five points)
on the season.
Campbell has been forced to overcome several injuries this
season, with six different Camels missing time due to injury.
Kennesaw, ranked 14th in the latest soccerbuzz.com
southeast regional ranking, makes its second trip in as many years
to Buies Creek on Thursday for a 7:00 kick-off. Last season the
Owls defeated the Camels 1-0 in the two teams first-ever
meeting.
The Owls have lived up to their billing as the pre-season pick
to win the conference, charging into the weekend by winning six of
their last seven matches in posting an 8-1-2 record (4-0-1,
A-Sun).
The Kennesaw offensive attack has been balanced, with nine
different Owls scoring at least one goal this season. Laura Tucker,
a first-team All A-Sun selection last year, leads the team in
scoring with four goals and one assist (nine points) while Caitlin
Dingle and Annie Phillips have four goals apiece.
Goalkeeper Staci Pugh has played a major role in the Owls
success thus far. Pugh is tied for the A-Sun lead in shutouts (7)
and owns the lowest goals-against average mark in the conference at
0.51.
East Tennessee State makes its way to Buies Creek on Saturday
for a 2:00 start. ETSU's season started with five straight losses,
but the Bucs have since recovered and currently hold a 2-2-1 A-Sun
mark (3-7-2 overall), good for the No. 5 seed in the A-Sun
Tournament (if the season were to end today). Last season the Bucs
handed Campbell a 4-1 loss in Johnson City, Tenn in the teams'
first ever meeting.
On the offensive side, ETSU is led by Jordan Monty who has
seven goals on the season and currently ranks fourth in the A-Sun
in scoring with 14 points.
The Bucs have used four different keepers between the posts
this season. Lindsay Metcalf has seen the most action for ETSU this
year, playing in seven games compiling 1.29 goals-against
average.
