Places 11 Softball Players on NFCA
All-American Scholar Athlete Team
STARKVILLE,
Miss.-Campbell University placed 11 softball players on the
National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American Scholar Athlete
Team. In order to make the team, the student-athlete must maintain
a 3.5 grade point average for the entire academic year.
Megan Paul, Kelly Weaver, Stephenie Pappas, Karlie Love,
Jessica Huffman, Lauren Caviness, Ashley Marley, Erica Willis, Lexi
Myers, Holly Harris and Lindsay Landry all received this high honor
for the Fighting Camels.
Myers, Harris, Paul, Caviness, Willis, Love and Huffman all had
perfect 4.0 GPA's for the 2005-06 school year.
Wills became the first Campbell player in school history to be
named to the NFCA All-American Scholar Athlete Team four times.
The Dunn, N.C. native graduated last spring and was awarded the
Campbell Senior GPA award. Willis stared 55 games for the Camels
last season finishing second on the team with six doubles.
Harris is just one of four Camels to receive the honor at least
three times. The Whitby, Ontario native graduated from Campbell
last spring and goes into the CU record books as one of the
greatest to ever wear the orange and black. She ranks in the top
10 of 15 offensive, defensive and pitching career categories.
Landry, Myers and Paul each receive there second All-American
Scholar Athlete honors. Landry and Myers each graduated last
spring, while Paul will be the starting second baseman for the
Camels in her senior season. Landry hit .227 last season playing
in 52 games and starting 49 in the CU outfield. Myers made 14
appearances in the circle last year and ranks in the top 10 in
eight career pitching categories. Paul started 56 games for CU
last year stealing six bases and driving in six runs.
Huffman was the only unanimous selection to the Atlantic Sun
All-Conference First Team last year after hitting .355 with 30 RBI,
7 home runs and 32 stolen bases. Weaver went 14-10 for the Camels
in the circle with a 1.83 ERA and a pair of shutouts. Lauren
Caviness, a pharmacy major, posted a 17-14 record in the circle
with a 1.83 ERA and set the Campbell single-season strikeout record
with 166.
Pappas started 57 games for the Camels hitting .248 with six
doubles and 15 stolen bases. Love played in 54 of Campbell's 59
games and drove in 17 runs, including a couple of game winners.
Marley played in 41 games and started nine hitting .214 with five
stolen bases.
Last season, the Camels posted the most wins since 1996 and
advanced to the Atlantic Sun Tournament for the first time since
1999. Head coach Drew Peterson was named Atlantic Sun Coach of the
Year, while two Camels received all-conference honors.
