Campbell Falls
to 36-6 to Gardner-Webb in Wrestling
BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.
Gardner-Webb ran its winning streak to three matches,
downing Campbell 36-6 in wrestling action on Wednesday. The Camels
fall to 0-3 in dual matches with the loss, while Gardner-Webb is
now 8-9 in dual matches this season.
For the Camels, Brent Poynter was the lone victor. He pinned
his opponent, Jordan Lowe, 1:50 into their match in the 165-pound
weight class. Since moving to the 165-pound weight class Poynter
has gone 6-3 and has won his last two matches.
The Camels were close in several matches. Three of the nine
matches that Gardner-Webb won were by three-points or less. The
Bulldogs are led by Daniel Elliott who is No. 13 in the country in
the 149-pound weight class. He pinned Steve Wiktorek 2:50 into the
match.
The Camels return to action on Friday and Saturday with a host
of matches at the CAA duals in Fairfax, Va. The CAA duals pit teams
from around the Colonial Athletic Association against one another
in a dual-tournament format hosted by George Mason.
The Camels open the weekend against Binghamton at 6:00 p.m.,
before facing Boston University at 11:00 p.m. the same night. On
Saturday, the Camels will face three more CAA opponents: Drexel
(11:00 a.m.), Wagner (1:00 p.m.) and Sacred Heart (3:00
p.m.).
The CAA Duals will be the first time that Campbell has faced a
conference opponent in a dual meet this season.
