Campbell's Alicia Valtin Places 73rd at NCAA Cross
Country Championship
TERRE HAUTE, Ind.-Campbell University
senior Alicia Valtin placed 73rd in a field of 253
runners at the NCAA Cross Country Championship Monday afternoon
hosted by Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Ind.
Valtin, a Sanford, N.C. native, is just the second Campbell
runner to qualify for the NCAA Championships since the Camels made
the jump from the NAIA to NCAA in 1986.
Texas Tech's Sally Kipyego won the individual title finishing
the 6K race 20:11.01 over 26 seconds ahead of her closest
competition. Valtin finished just under two minutes off the pace
crossing in 21:53.00, just 15 seconds off a top 50 finish.
The two-time Atlantic Sun Runner of the Year won four races
each of the past two seasons and finished in the top 10 in all of
her races except both NCAA Regionals and today's NCAA
Championship.
Stanford won the team title followed by Colorado, Michigan,
Wisconsin and Arkansas.
Valtin was the lone runner from the Atlantic Sun Conference in
the NCAA Championship race.
