University
BUIES
CREEK,
N.C. Todd Clark has been named head women's soccer coach at
Campbell University, Director of Athletics Stan Williamson
announced on Tuesday. Clark joins the Fighting Camel program from
Malone College in Canton, Ohio, where he compiled an overall record
of 102-33-13 as the Pioneers' coach since 1999.
A four-time National
Christian Colleges Athletic Association (NCCAA) East Region Coach
of the Year, Clark replaces Matt Dillon, who resigned last week in
order to accept the head coaching job at Lamar University, which is
adding women's soccer for the 2007 season.
"I'm excited to have
the opportunity to coach at Campbell University," said Clark.
"There is a firm foundation in place and tremendous potential.
Although we lost one very good senior from last year, there is a
lot of experience in place. I look forward to coaching not only a
talented team, but one with experience from the start.
Furthermore, Campbell is the type of place where I can be
successful on and off the field. The opportunity to coach in the
environment of growth that Campbell has created athletically and
academically is tremendous. It's a great time to join the
organization."
Clark takes over a
Campbell program that has posted a 31-18-10 (.610) record over the
past three seasons. Sixteen letter winners, including 10 starters,
return from last year's team that compiled an 8-9-2 overall and
6-3-1 Atlantic Sun Conference record and advanced to the league
tournament final for the second-consecutive season. Campbell won
the 2004 A-Sun Championship and advanced to the NCAA Division I
tournament for the first time in the program's history.
While at Malone,
Clark's teams were ranked among the nation's top 25 in the National
Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/NAIA poll each year
from 2000 to 2005. His team won an NCCAA national title in 2002
and placed fourth last fall.
"We are excited to
have Todd Clark join the Campbell University family as our head
women's soccer coach," said Williamson. "Todd brings a successful
background with a passion for the game and a strong commitment to
women's soccer. He is a person of integrity whose personal values
fit well into the mission and purpose of Campbell University. We
look forward to Todd's leadership continuing the successes of the
Campbell University women's soccer program."
While at Malone, Clark
guided the Pioneers to American Mideast Conference championships in
2001 and 2002, while leading the 2003 and 2004 squads to runner-up
finishes. His team won the NAIA Region IX title in 2003 and went
on to participate in the NAIA National tournament.
During his seven
seasons at Malone, Clark was named either conference or region
coach of the year six times, while earning Ohio Collegiate Soccer
Association coaching honors three times. He recruited and coached
18 NSCAA All-Americans and 44 all-conference selections.
In addition to guiding
the women's program, Clark added responsibilities as head men's
soccer coach for the last three years. He also has experience as
an Ohio-North Olympic Development Program (ODP) staff coach and
holds coaching licenses or diplomas from the NSCAA, Scottish
Football Association and Irish Football Association.
Before returning to
his alma mater, Clark taught and coached on the prep level and
North Canton Hoover High School from 1994-2000. He was named
league, county or region coach of the year on five occasions and
was selected to coach in the 1994 McDonalds/adidas North-South
Senior All-Star match.
During his playing
career, Clark was a four-year letter winner in the defense for
