Campbell's Fredric Sundberg
Named To A-Sun Men's Golf All-Conference Second
Team
BUIES
CREEK,
N.C. Campbell University sophomore Fredric Sundberg has been
chosen to the 2006 Atlantic Sun men's golf all-conference second
team in voting by league head coaches.
A native of
Gothenburg, Sweden, Sundberg followed up his 2005 A-Sun Freshman of
the Year campaign in 2005-06 by producing six, top-five individual
finishes in 10 tournaments. He opened the year with his second
collegiate tournament win at the Towson Fall Invitational, where he
shot a career-low 66 in the opening round.
Sundberg added a
runner-up finish at the Charleston Southern Spring Kick-Off and
tied for third at the Sam Houston State BearKat Classic. He placed
fourth at both the East Carolina Pirate Fall Invitational and
Campbell's Hargrove B. Davis Spring Intercollegiate, while tying
for fifth at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic.
For the year, Sundberg
ranked eighth in the A-Sun in stroke average (72.7) and 139th
nationally in adjusted score vs. par, according to
Golfstat.
"Freddie's been our
leader all along," said Campbell head coach John Crooks. "Except
for a dropped putt here or made putt there, he certainly could have
been a first-team all-conference selection. We're just so happy
with what he does on the golf course, in the classroom, and how he
represents our university."
Jacksonville's Jim
Taketa received the Coach of the Year nod from his peers after
leading the Dolphins to a surprising victory in the Atlantic Sun
Championship at Eagle Creek Golf Club on April 19. North Florida's
Jeff Dennis took home Freshman of the Year accolades.
A-Sun Player of the
Year Rhys Davies from East Tennessee State posted a league-best
70.9 scoring average and captured a pair of individual titles as
well as finishing in the top-10 nine times in 13 events. He is
currently ranked fourth in the GolfStat Cup Standings and fifth
nationally in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index.
