Maurice Latham Inks Pro Contract In
Slovenia
BUIES CREEK, N.C.
Former Campbell University men's basketball standout Maurice Latham
signed his first professional contract with Geoplin Slovan, a
prestigious team in the city of Ljubljana in
Slovenia.
Latham will play with Geoplin
in Adriatic League competition and the Slovenian championship. The
Adriatic League is one of the better leagues in Europe. Latham
will be coached by Ales Pipan, who also is the current Slovenian
National Team coach, and has already guided a number of players now
in the NBA or with top teams in Europe.
As a senior at
Campbell in 2005-06, Latham became just the 11th player in Campbell
senior college history (since 1961-62) to top the 500-point marker
for a year. A 6-foot-6 forward from Norfolk, Va., Latham ranked
third among Atlantic Sun Conference leaders in scoring average
(18.0), second in rebounding (8.9), seventh in field goal
percentage (.534) and 13th in free throw accuracy (.774), while
leading the league in offensive rebounds (4.0). His rebounding
average was 42nd nationally.
He became the first
Camel to gain first-team all-conference honors in six years and
posted 12 double-doubles while scoring in double digits 25 times in
28 outings. His 503 points is the third-highest total by a Camel
in the program's Division I era, while he set a new school mark for
offensive boards in a year (112).
Latham's top scoring
performance was a 32-point effort in a 103-99 overtime loss to
Belmont. He twice pulled down a career-high 14 rebounds in a
game. He was also named first-team all-state by the North Carolina
Collegiate Sports Information Association.
