Campbell Advances In A-Sun Championship With 4-2 Win Over
Belmont
MACON, GA.
Third-seeded Campbell rallied to defeat No. 6 Belmont 4-2 Thursday
in the quarterfinal round of the Atlantic Sun Conference Women's
Tennis Championship at the John Drew Smith Tennis
Center.
Belmont (6-9) won the
doubles point, but Campbell (14-7) battled back winning four of
five singles matches to advance to the semifinal round for the
first time since reaching the title match in 2003.
Iva Stojancev and Liza
Bensimon each won in straight sets for Campbell, while Belmont's
Linda Johansson downed Scarlet Alfonzo at the first position.
Surviladze improved her record to 20-4 on the year, 18-2 in the
spring season, while defeating Tatiana Pozo 6-4, 6-2 at
number-two.
Bensimon dropped only
four games in a 6-3, 6-1 triumph over April Bradley at
number-four. Nina Surviladze and Anita Dajc provided the winning
points with three-set victories at numbers three and five,
respectively.
Campbell will face second-seeded
Stetson in Friday's 2:00 p.m. semifinal.
