Stetson Sweeps Atlantic Sun Softball Doubleheader from Campbell

BUIES CREEK, N.C.—Carrie Cruit atoned for two earlier errors with a two-out RBI-double lifting Stetson to a 2-1 victory over Campbell in game two of a doubleheader. The Hatters took the victory in game one 4-0 handing the Camels their first A-Sun sweep of the season.

Cruit's two errors in the third inning allowed the Camels (29-25, 11-7 A-Sun) to score their only run of the ball game. She stepped to the plate in the top of the ninth hitting just .188 on the season, but blasted the ball to the wall in center field allowing Lindsay Wightman to score from second giving Stetson (35-11, 10-2) the 2-1 victory.

Kelly Weaver (14-7) suffered the loss for Campbell despite pitching an outstanding ballgame. She allowed just the two runs on six hits throwing all nine innings.

Erica Demers (22-3) picked up the victory in both games for Stetson throwing the final three innings of game two striking out five batters, while scattering three hits. She allowed four hits and struck out five in the opener. Heather Colding threw the first six innings of game two allowing just the unearned run on four hits.

Lindsey Landry scored the only Campbell run of the afternoon on a throwing error by Cruit in the third inning. She reached on a single and advanced to second on the first of the two throwing errors.

Stetson scored two runs in both the first and third innings of game one for the 4-0 victory. Melissa Wiggins delivered a two-run double in the first, Teri Lake drew a bases-loaded walk in the third and Cruit had an RBI-single through the left-side of the infield also in the third.

Lauren Caviness (15-14) took the loss for Campbell allowing all four runs, three earned, on six Hatter hits, while striking out four.

The Camels and Hatters have now both qualified for the Atlantic Sun Tournament, which begins on May 11 down in Boca Raton, Fla. This is the first trip to the postseason for the Camels since 1999.

Campbell wraps up Atlantic Sun play on Monday when they travel to Macon, Ga. to take on Mercer (22-22, 8-4).
