BUIES CREEK, N.C.Carrie Cruit atoned for two earlier
errors with a two-out RBI-double lifting Stetson to a 2-1 victory
over Campbell in game two of a doubleheader. The Hatters took the
victory in game one 4-0 handing the Camels their first A-Sun sweep
of the season.
Cruit's two errors in the third inning allowed the Camels (29-25,
11-7 A-Sun) to score their only run of the ball game. She stepped
to the plate in the top of the ninth hitting just .188 on the
season, but blasted the ball to the wall in center field allowing
Lindsay Wightman to score from second giving Stetson (35-11, 10-2)
the 2-1 victory.
Kelly Weaver (14-7) suffered the loss for Campbell despite
pitching an outstanding ballgame. She allowed just the two runs on
six hits throwing all nine innings.
Erica Demers (22-3) picked up the victory in both games for
Stetson throwing the final three innings of game two striking out
five batters, while scattering three hits. She allowed four hits
and struck out five in the opener. Heather Colding threw the first
six innings of game two allowing just the unearned run on four
hits.
Lindsey Landry scored the only Campbell run of the afternoon on a
throwing error by Cruit in the third inning. She reached on a
single and advanced to second on the first of the two throwing
errors.
Stetson scored two runs in both the first and third innings of
game one for the 4-0 victory. Melissa Wiggins delivered a two-run
double in the first, Teri Lake drew a bases-loaded walk in the
third and Cruit had an RBI-single through the left-side of the
infield also in the third.
Lauren Caviness (15-14) took the loss for Campbell allowing all
four runs, three earned, on six Hatter hits, while striking out
four.
The Camels and Hatters have now both qualified for the Atlantic
Sun Tournament, which begins on May 11 down in Boca Raton, Fla.
This is the first trip to the postseason for the Camels since
1999.
Campbell wraps up Atlantic Sun play on Monday when they travel to
Macon, Ga. to take on Mercer (22-22, 8-4).
