BUIES
CREEK,
N.C. - Campbell remained unbeaten in pre-season men's soccer action
with a 2-0 victory Friday at Elon.
The Fighting Camels, who downed Richmond 4-1 on Tuesday night,
scored twice in a two-minute span midway through the first half and
ran their exhibition game aggregate score to 6-1. Campbell, which
hosts its annual Alumni Game on Saturday at 3:00 p.m., opens the
regular season on Aug. 26 at home vs. UNC Wilmington.
Willy Guadarrama opened the scoring in the 22nd minute with his
first goal of the pre-season. Freshman Vince Petrasso dribbled into
the Elon third, then fed Guadarrama, who scored on a shot from
outside the area.
Guadarrama scored 21 goals in 20 games to lead the nation during
the 2005 season when he was named second-team All-America by the
National Soccer Coaches Association of America. A freshman from
Woodbridge, Ontario, Petrasso tallied a point for the
second-straight game after a two-goal effort vs.
Richmond.
The Camels doubled the margin less than three minutes later when
Josh Elliott headed in a corner kick from Richard Jata. The strike
was the third of the pre-season for Elliott, a junior
forward.
Campbell held a 6-5 edge in shots, while both teams took five
corner kicks. Aaron Johnson (four saves) and Bryce Kenny combined
on the shutout in the nets.
