STATESBORO, Ga.-Campbell completed the
Saturday sweep with a 3-0 (30-18, 30-15, 30-18) victory over
Savannah State at the Georgia Southern Invitational in the Hanner
Fieldhouse. The Camels defeated Charleston Southern 3-1 earlier in
the day.
Three Camels
(2-1) registered double-figure kills led by senior Rachel Templin's
13. A pair of freshmen reached the plateau for the
second-consecutive match. Sarah Hill and Ashley Weers each recorded
12 kills and had just six combined errors.
Savannah State (0-3) finished the match with just 13 kills as a
team and a -.013 team hitting percentage. The Camels hit over .250
for the second-straight match with a mark of .292 recording 50
kills to just 17 errors.
Melissa Harvey, another Camel freshman, continued to shine
defensively recording double-figure digs for the third-consecutive
match. The Crystal Lake, Ill. native had 15 digs against the Tigers
and is averaging 5.80 digs per game on the young season.
The Camels never trailed by more than three points the entire
match and never trailed at all in game two.
Campbell had 13 services aces led by six from Weers and four by
Templin. Setter Sarah Dillon had two aces to go along with her 40
assists.
Tiffany Hall had five kills to lead Savannah State, while Danielle
Simpson and Jamilla Joseph each recorded 10 digs.
Campbell opens the home schedule on Tuesday when it hosts in-state
rival UNC Greensboro at 7:00 pm in Carter Gym. This is the Camels
only home match until September 19 as they play 13 of their first
14 games away from home.
