DURHAM, N.C. - David Wise won his fifth straight match, but Duke
(7-4, 0-1 ACC) pulled away late in the match to defeat Campbell
(2-12-1, 1-4 CAA) 38-8 at Cameron Indoor Stadium Wednesday night.
In the second dual, The Citadel (3-4, 0-1 SoCon) won every match by
tech fall or better to shut-out the Camels 52-0.
Wise came into the night riding a four-match win streak following a
4-0 performance at last weekend's CAA Duals. Wise, who is ranked
third at 133 lbs. in the latest CAA rankings, extended the streak
to five by defeating Duke's Spencer Jasper by tech fall, 19-3.
Campbell stuck with the Blue Devils early in the match. After
Wise's victory Campbell held a 5-3 advantage over Duke. After
Trevour Smith lost by an 8-3 decision and Chris Mazzatta fell by a
major decision count of 11-3, Steve Wiktorek defeated Jared
Sernoffsky 4-0 at 157 lbs. to cut the Duke lead to 10-8.
The 165 lbs. match saw the momentum shift to the Blue Devils for
good. Brent Poynter took Aaron Glover to overtime after they ended
the third period tied at five. Glover left no doubt by pinning
Poynter and turning the tide in favor of Duke. The Blue Devils took
the last four matches of the night, two by pin, to glide past CU
38-8.
In Campbell's second match of the night, The Citadel proved to be
too much for the Camels as the Cadets won every match by at least
tech fall, en route to shutting out CU 52-0.
After spending the entire season away from Buies Creek, The Camel
wrestlers make their first appearance at Carter Gym Tuesday, when
they take on in-state rival Gardner-Webb. The first match of the
dual starts at 7:00 p.m.
