North Florida Hangs On for 59-53 Atlantic Sun Victory over Campbell

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida opened up a 19-point lead in the first half and hung on for a 59-53 victory over Campbell in Atlantic Sun women's basketball action Thursday night at UNF Arena.

Tamara Hubbard had 16 points to lead North Florida (3-9, 2-1 A-Sun), while Jennifer Bowen added 15 and Shandrea Moore added 10.

Adrienne Rieley paced Campbell (3-9, 1-1) with 14 points, all coming in the second half and Octavia Blackwell added 12.

The Ospreys opened up a 30-11 lead with 2:27 to play in the opening half using a 19-6 run spanning just over 11 minutes.

Campbell cut the deficit down to three points at 50-47 with 4:37 to play after Rieley drained a jumper capping off an 8-0 run all coming from the senior's hand.

The Osprey maintained a three-point advantage until the 29 second mark when they converted free throws to extend their lead to the final 59-53 margin.

The Lady Camels dominated the glass outrebounding North Florida 43-31, including 17-7 on the offensive glass. Marlena Murphy led all players with 12 boards for Campbell, but CU's leading scorer was held to just four points on 2-of-5 shooting.

North Florida shot 43.8 percent from the floor for the game leading to its season-high point total. Campbell struggled shooting just 31.0 percent for the game after posting an 18.5 percent clip in the first half (5-27).

The Lady Camels continued to shine from the free throw line knocking down 92.9 percent hitting 13-of-14. CU hit seven-straight free throws down the stretch of the first half cutting a 19-point deficit down to 12 (30-18) at the break.

Campbell looks to get back on track Saturday when it finishes out the Jacksonville double dip at Jacksonville University in a 2:00 tip.
