JOHNSON CITY, TENN.-Despite freshman outside hitter Emily Werner's
best performance in nearly a month, East Tennessee State takes
Campbell volleyball in four (30-27; 23-30; 30-27; 30-15).
With the loss, Campbell drops to 8-16 on the year and 1-7 in A-Sun
play, while ETSU improves to 15-12 overall and 6-2 in league
action, breaking a three match skid.
Campbell saw production on the outside in the match, with freshman
outside hitters Emily Werner knocking a career high 17 kills
(17-5-34; .353) and Taylor Deering connecting with seven. Werner
also collected four block assists, two service aces and a single
dig while Deering notched nine digs with a pair of aces and block
assists.
The Fighting Camels also saw blocking numbers up, topping the
Buccaneers 17-4 in that category, as junior middle blocker Femi
Alabi blocked six ETSU attacks on three solos and six assists.
Alabi, one of the most consistent Camels on offense, reached double
figure kills as well with 11, hitting .409 in the loss.
Sophomore Ashley Weers, also in the middle, was credited with four
total blocks by way of six assists and one solo. Weers also killed
four balls and grabbed three digs.
Senior libero Kaena Apana defended the ETSU side of the court with
26 digs on the afternoon, while a pair of Buccaneer setters, senior
Marissa Mortensen and freshman Whitney Cogburn collected 28 and 20
assists respectively.
Laura Waddell, a freshman outside hitter, matched CU's Werner with
17 kills on the afternoon, pacing the ETSU offense, while middle
blocker Callie Kiselich, also a senior, recorded nine kills, seven
digs and one block assist.
The Fighting Camels return to action at home on Tuesday, Oct. 23,
as the Blue Hose of Presbyterian visit Carter Gym.
