BUIES CREEK, N.C.-With Campbell football taking the field on
Saturday morning, nearly 2,000 fans made their way into Buies
Creek, including media, alumni, parents, students and staff.
Among those in attendance was former CU Head Coach Earle Smith, the
man who last led the Camels off the field more than 50 years
ago.
The celebration began with remarks by Dr. Dennis Bazemore,
Campbell's Vice President of Student Life, followed by the
university's president, Dr. Jerry Wallace and current head coach,
Dale Steele.
As
the crowd cheered, the players, separated by orange and white
uniforms, lined up and began play.
The squad scrimmaged for two 12-minute-halfs, followed by three
situational overtime periods, putting on a show for the homecoming
crowd.
With only 314 days left until CU takes the field against Birmingham
Southern, fans and players alike have now experienced a taste of
Campbell football, holding them over until August 2008.
