Football Brings Numbers Back to Buies Creek

BUIES CREEK, N.C.-With Campbell football taking the field on Saturday morning, nearly 2,000 fans made their way into Buies Creek, including media, alumni, parents, students and staff.

Among those in attendance was former CU Head Coach Earle Smith, the man who last led the Camels off the field more than 50 years ago.

The celebration began with remarks by Dr. Dennis Bazemore, Campbell's Vice President of Student Life, followed by the university's president, Dr. Jerry Wallace and current head coach, Dale Steele.

As the crowd cheered, the players, separated by orange and white uniforms, lined up and began play.

The squad scrimmaged for two 12-minute-halfs, followed by three situational overtime periods, putting on a show for the homecoming crowd.

With only 314 days left until CU takes the field against Birmingham Southern, fans and players alike have now experienced a taste of Campbell football, holding them over until August 2008.
