BUIES CREEK, N.C.-Jacksonville downed Campbell in Atlantic Sun
volleyball action, 3-1, Friday night in Carter Gym.
With the loss, Campbell falls to 6-13 and 0-4 in division play,
while Jacksonville pushes to 10-9, 4-1 in A-Sun play.
The Dolphins were paced by junior outside hitter Sara Bendorf, who
collected 22 kills (22-5-41-.415), nine digs and three aces on the
night. Also with a big night, freshman setter Hannah Munneke
notched 50 of her team's 54 assists. Junior outside hitter Kelsey
Clark and freshman outside hitter Aiden Yeager were also in double
figures, getting 14 and 11 kills respectively. Sophomore libero
Michelle Walroth also grabbed 25 digs in the win.
Leading the way for the Fighting Camels was freshman outside hitter
Emily Werner with ten kills, seven digs and 2.5 blocks, her second
straight match in double-figures. Sophomore Ashley Weers also
collected seven kills on the night, while blocking three Dolphin
attacks. Melissa Harvey, a sophomore libero, led the Fighting
Camels' serving attack, collecting five aces.
Taking the first two games, Jacksonville was led by the foursome of
Clark (10 kills, 5 digs), Bendorf (10 kills, 4 digs), Walroth (14
digs) and Munneke (25 assists).
In
game three, however, the Camels bounced back, outlasting JU in a
30-24 win. Harvey collected four of her five aces in the set,
including three digs, while freshman Caroline Hammersley came off
the bench to grab four kills.
The fourth set was owned by the Dolphins, however, as they took the
game, 30-19. The Fighting Camel offense couldn't get going in the
set, hitting .000 on nine kills, nine errors and 38 attempts.
Meanwhile, the Dolphins knocked 15 kills past the Camels while
hitting .231 as a team.
The Fighting Camels will return to action tomorrow, Oct. 6, as they
will battle with North Florida at 3 p.m. in another A-Sun
matchup.
