BUIES
CREEK,
N.C. Richard Jata of Campbell University has been named
Atlantic Sun Conference men's soccer player of the week for the
second-straight Monday.
Jata had an assist and scored once in a pair of contests last week
for the Fighting Camels.
A junior from Port Richey,
Fla., Jata is tied for eighth among A-Sun leaders in goals (6) and
assists (4), while standing ninth in points (16). He has three game-winning goals (5th
in the league), including deciding strikes against Belmont (Oct.
11), USC Upstate (Oct. 20) and North Carolina (Oct. 31).
He was tabbed the A-Sun's
player of the week on Nov. 5 after he scored the game-winning goal
and assisted on the first strike in a 2-1 victory at North
Carolina.
Campbell owns an 11-0-0 record in
games when Jata scores since the midfielder joined the program in
the fall of 2006 as a transfer from Furman. The A-Sun pre-season player of the
year has tallied at least one point in each of Campbell's last
three contests and has helped lead the Camels to a 4-1-1 record
over their past six matches heading into the league
tourney.
The Camels (11-5-2) carry the
third seed into this week's Atlantic Sun Conference Championship
tournament at DeLand, Fla.
Campbell concluded the A-Sun regular season with a 5-2-2 record and
will face defending champion and sixth-seeded Gardner-Webb (3-6-0
A-Sun) on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in DeLand, Fla.
The opening round match
features fourth-seeded Lipscomb (4-3-2) against fifth-seeded
Belmont (3-5-1) on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. The winner of the Campbell-Gardner
Webb game will face second-seeded and host Stetson (6-2-1) on
Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
Top-seeded Jacksonville
(7-2-0) will play the winner of the Lipscomb-Belmont contest on
Thursday at 4:00 p.m.
Saturday's championship match is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m.
kick-off.
Campbell stands 7-2-2 (.727) in games
played away from home this year heading into this week's Atlantic
Sun Championship. CU's lone
road losses have come at third-ranked Virginia by a 2-1 score on
Sept. 19 and a 3-2 setback Oct. 13 at Lipscomb.
Following a 2-1 loss to UNC
Greensboro and 3-2 victory over High Point last week, the Camels
are 11-5 in one-goal decisions this year. The other two games have ended in
draws.
