BUIES CREEK, N.C.-By the time the Campbell University (0-1)
wrestlers hit the mat on Thursday at The Citadel (0-2) in
Charleston, S.C., it will have been 17 days since the Fighting
Camels have seen any competition, but the team is looking forward
to the match.
"Historically, we've matched up pretty well with them and we have a
good opportunity this year," said CU head coach Billy Greene. "The
Citadel has a lot of young guys in the lineup this year and we have
a great opportunity to get a win if we can put it all together and
wrestle consistently."
In
the all-time series, the Bulldogs lead with a 15-7 record against
Campbell, with the squads meeting just last year at the Duke
Invitational in Durham, N.C.
Last time the Fighting Camels were in action, they suffered a loss
to UNC Greensboro in Buies Creek. In that contest, sophomore Dillon
Landi racked up a pin, downing the
Spartans' Mikal McKee in the 174 pound division at the 3:47
mark.
Also
registering wins for Campbell in its home debut were C.J. Gittens
(125 lbs.) and Kelin Bidelspach (141 lbs.), downing Mitchell
Johnson (10-9) and Andrew Krieger (9-5) respectively.
On
the year, Landi leads the way with a 3-1 record, with all three
wins coming by way of pin falls.
Standing at 0-2 on the year, the Bulldogs are coming off an
appearance at the Penn State Open, where 125-pound freshman Paul
Sanford put up a 4-2 record with a pin to lead the way.
The Fighting Camels will break again after battling The Citadel,
having another 15-day break before traveling to Lakeland, Fla. for
the Sunshine Open.
