PITTSBURGH, Pa. - C.J.
Gittens recorded his first collegiate victory, but the Camels
(2-16-1, 1-5 CAA) lost six straight matches after the 141-pound as
Duquesne (12-10) sent CU to their 10th straight dual
loss by a count of 31-15.
Once again the Camels jumped out to an early lead, receiving the
Gittens victory at 125 lbs. and a pin from Kelin Bidelspach at 141
lbs. to give them a 9-3 advantage. Gittens, a freshman from
Riverview, Fla., made his first match interesting by taking a one
point decision over Duquesne's Brett Skonieczny. After the Dukes
tied the match at 3-3, Bidelspach made quick work of Jayk Cobbs,
sticking him at the 1:18 mark of the first period to give the
Camels the six point cushion.
The Camels could not muster much more from there, as the Dukes went
on a 28-0 run. Duquesne received two regular decisions, one major
decision, one fall and one forfeit to race to an insurmountable
31-9 lead.
Jeremiah Fennell salvaged the last match of the evening for CU, as
he pinned Joe D'Orsie at the 4:20 mark in the second period. It was
Fennell's fifth pin of the season, tying him for the team lead with
Steve Wiktorek.
The Camels will finish their weekend road swing Saturday afternoon
when they face CAA conference opponent James Madison in
Harrisonburg, Va. The dual is set to start at 4:00.
