HARRISONBURG, Va. - James
Madison (7-24, 2-7 CAA) opened the dual with five straight
victories for a 22-0 lead en route to a 34-7 Dukes victory over
Campbell (2-17-1, 1-6 CAA) Saturday afternoon. Jeremiah Fennell and
Brent Pointer picked up the two Camel victories on the day at 285
lbs. and 165 lbs. respectively.
The 149 lbs. match provided the most excitement on the afternoon,
as Chris Mazzatta held a 1-0 lead with a large advantage in riding
time over Nick Broccoli late in the third period. Broccoli,
however, recorded a huge takedown and three-point near fall to give
him a 5-2 decision over Mazzatta.
David Wise's undefeated run through CAA opponents ended, as fell
to Brandon Luce 3-0. Luce held a slim 1-0 lead going into the third
period, but sealed the victory with a takedown under a minute
remaining to provide the final margin. The loss dropped Wise to 5-1
against CAA opponents.
Brent Poynter broke the James Madison run by scoring a 12-4 major
decision victory at 165 lbs. over Jeff Jacobs. It was the senior's
thirteenth victory on the season, putting him one behind Fennell
for the team lead. Fennell racked up his team leading 14th victory
three matches later, as he scored a 4-1 decision over Zack
Winfrey.
Campbell will close out its regular
season with a trip to Boone, N.C. on Tuesday to face Appalachian
State. The dual is set to begin at 7:00.
