CREEK,
N.C.-Campbell earned its fourth-straight win Wednesday afternoon
with a hard-earned 4-3 decision over East Carolina at the Nisbet
Tennis Center.
Junior Scarlet Alfonzo clinched the win for Campbell with a 2-6,
7-5, 6-1 victory at the number-one singles spot. Alfonzo improved
her singles record to 7-4 with the win, which was her
third-straight triumph.
Campbell won the doubles point after defeating ECU in two of the
three matches. The team of Alfonzo and Blanca Saenz improved its
doubles record to 3-1 on the year, while Iva Stojancev and Liza
Bensimon improved to 5-2.
Freshman Ana Surviladze gave Campbell a 2-0 lead with a 6-0, 6-4
victory at the number-three, but East Carolina closed in on the
lead with a win at the number-four.
The Lady Camels' sole senior, Stojancev, picked up her
fourth-straight victory and extended Campbell's lead with a 7-5,
6-4 win at the number-five spot. The Pirates rallied, though, and
claimed both the two and six-spots to even the score at
3-3.
Alfonzo secured the victory in a back-and-forth match against ECU's
Anca Dumitru that extended almost thirty minutes beyond the end of
the other matches.
Campbell improved to 5-1 on the year-2-0 in Atlantic Sun play-while
ECU fell to 6-4.
The Lady Camels look to continue their winning ways Feb. 15 when
they host Mount Olive at the Nisbet Tennis Center at
2:00p.m.
