KENNESAW, Ga.-Kennesaw State rallied
from 10 points down in the second half to claim a 64-58 victory
over Campbell in Atlantic Sun women's basketball Thursday night at
the KSU Convocation Center.
Campbell's (5-17, 3-9 A-Sun) Adrienne Rieley led all players with a
career-best 23 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the floor and a
perfect 7-of-7 from the free throw line. Marlena Murphy posted her
10th double-double of the season with 11 points and 16
rebounds, while Taylor Oliver netted 11 points on 3-of-7 shooting
from three-point range.
Stephanie Scearce led Kennesaw State (9-13, 5-7) with 15 points
and nine rebounds, while Rosetta Hollis came off the bench to score
11 points, with seven coming in the second half.
Campbell opened the second half on a 15-4 run grabbing a 45-35
lead with 15:40 to play in the game. After the teams traded
buckets, Kennesaw State went on a 23-8 run grabbing a 58-53 lead
with 6:47 to play.
Letitia Dickson hit 1-of-2 from the line tying the game at 58-58
at the 4:28 mark. The Owls ended the game on a 6-0 run holding the
Camels to 0-for-7 shooting.
Campbell ended the first half on a 22-5 run after falling behind
by as many 16 points. Scearce's layup at the 9:45 mark gave the
Owls a 24-8 lead at the 9:45. Rieley scored Campbell's next nine
points over a four minute period pulling the Lady Camels within
seven points at 24-17 with 4:52 to play.
Jennifer Baker drained a three-pointer with 4:12 remaining to give
Kennesaw State a 27-17 lead; it would be the Owls final points
until a pair of free throws with one second remaining.
Murphy kick started the final portion of Campbell's run with a
layup and a 1-for-2 trip to the charity stripe. Taylor Oliver and
Dickson nailed three pointers on back-to-back possessions and
Rieley gave the Lady Camels their first lead of the game 28-27 with
a jumper at the 1:29 mark.
Campbell carried a 30-29 lead into the half after a Rieley layup
and a pair of Owl free throws. Rieley finished the half with 15
points and seven rebounds on 5-of-7 shooting from the floor and
5-of-5 from the free throw line.
Kennesaw State jumped out to its big lead with a 16-0 run taking
just over five minutes off the clock. After Campbell used a 6-0
spurt tying the game at 8-8 with 14:52 to play, the Owls scored the
next 16 points of the game.
The Lady Camels complete the brief two-game road trip Saturday
afternoon at East Tennessee State in Johnson City, Tenn. at 2:00
pm.
