Pair of School Records Fall as Several Camels Tune Up for A-Sun Championships

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.--Freshman Bryan Ames broke the 24-year old Campbell school record in the shot put and senior Ra-Don Bain broke Ames' school record in the weight throw to highlight a small group of Camel athletes at the Carolina Classic.

Ames finished ninth in the event with a throw of 14.18m (46-06.25 feet) surpassing Orville Peterson's throw of 14.17m (46-06.00) set back in 1983. He also took a seventh place finish in the weight throw with a toss of 13.99m (45-10.75).

Bain placed fifth in the weight throw behind a pack of North Carolina State throwers with a toss of 14.21m (46-07.50), just under a foot better than Ames' throw at the Liberty Fast Times on January 27.

Ames, Bain and the rest of the Fighting Camels head to Johnson City, Tenn. on February 16 and 17 for the Atlantic Sun Championships. The men finished second and the women fifth at the inaugural A-Sun Championships last year.
