BUIES
CREEK,
N.C. Campbell (4-13) returns to Taylor Field tomorrow to
host Ivy League member Columbia (1-5-1) at 3:00. Campbell short
two-game stand with the lions serves as a prelude to their Atlantic
Sun opener this weekend at Mercer.
The Camels spring break
weekend was anything but fun in the sun, as CU dropped three games
at Marshall on Friday and Saturday. The Camels dropped two one-run
contests on Friday and suffered an 8-4 setback on Saturday.
Sophomore Carlton Floyd had a career week, as the sophomore batted
.545 with three doubles, a triple, a home run and seven RBIs over
the Camel's five games. Floyd leads the team in batting, working at
a .385 clip this season.
Columbia rolls into the Creek in the
middle of a 10-game, eight day road swing. The Citadel took two of
three from the Lions on Saturday and Sunday, as the Lions will
travel to Gardner-Webb for games Wednesday and Thursday before they
wrap-up the trip with three games at Western Carolina Friday
through Sunday.
The Lions offense has been
led by Ron Williams. Through seven games, Williams is batting .448
with three doubles and five RBI. Both Henry Perkins and Bill Purdy
have had two solid starts on the bump, as Perkins sports a 1.29 ERA
over 14 IP with seven strikeouts, and Purdy fashions a 1.59 ERA in
17 innings of work, fanning four.
Campbell and Columbia played just two
games prior to this meeting, as The Camels took two games from the
Lions back in 1998 by counts of 4-0 and 14-5. Campbell holds a 13-6
advantage all-time over the Ivy League schools.
First pitch for Monday and
Tuesday is scheduled for 3:00.
