N.C.Campbell sophomore Tanya Ahuja picked up her
eighth-straight victory last week and has been named Atlantic Sun
Conference women's tennis player of the week.
With her win at number-six
singles against Lafayette yesterday, Ahuja increased her winning
streak to nine-straight singles matches.
Ahuja, from New Delhi, India,
compiled three victories over the course of three contests last
week. She went 3-0 at number-six singles, including a 1-6, 7-5, 6-4
decision over Carolina de Melo that helped the Lady Camels clinch a
4-3 victory at North Florida Tuesday.
Ahuja continued her success
with a 6-0, 6-2 win against Stetson's Danielle Palmiotto Wednesday
and a 7-5, 6-3 win over Lipscomb's Caitlin Khouri on
Saturday.
The sophomore's singles
record stands at 14-2 for the 2006-07 campaign, including a 5-0
mark at number-six singles.
She also boasts a 2-0 doubles record with Campbell freshman Cortney
Armitano.
Ahuja carries a 27-10 career
singles record.
This is the first player of
the week award for Ahuja. The last Lady Camel to earn this honor
was Iva Stojancev for the week of March 14 in the 2005-06
year.
Campbell went 2-1 last week with wins
over North Florida and Lipscomb and a loss to Stetson. With the
team's 7-0 sweep of Lafayette yesterday, the Lady Camels improved
their record to 12-3, with a 4-2 mark in conference
action.
The Lady Camels resume
Atlantic Sun play tomorrow when they host Gardner-Webb at the
Nisbet Tennis Center. Matches are scheduled to start at
2:00p.m.
