Ahuja Named Atlantic Sun Player of the Week

BUIES CREEK, N.C.—Campbell sophomore Tanya Ahuja picked up her eighth-straight victory last week and has been named Atlantic Sun Conference women's tennis player of the week.

With her win at number-six singles against Lafayette yesterday, Ahuja increased her winning streak to nine-straight singles matches.

Ahuja, from New Delhi, India, compiled three victories over the course of three contests last week. She went 3-0 at number-six singles, including a 1-6, 7-5, 6-4 decision over Carolina de Melo that helped the Lady Camels clinch a 4-3 victory at North Florida Tuesday.

Ahuja continued her success with a 6-0, 6-2 win against Stetson's Danielle Palmiotto Wednesday and a 7-5, 6-3 win over Lipscomb's Caitlin Khouri on Saturday.

The sophomore's singles record stands at 14-2 for the 2006-07 campaign, including a 5-0 mark at number-six singles. She also boasts a 2-0 doubles record with Campbell freshman Cortney Armitano.

Ahuja carries a 27-10 career singles record.

This is the first player of the week award for Ahuja. The last Lady Camel to earn this honor was Iva Stojancev for the week of March 14 in the 2005-06 year.

Campbell went 2-1 last week with wins over North Florida and Lipscomb and a loss to Stetson. With the team's 7-0 sweep of Lafayette yesterday, the Lady Camels improved their record to 12-3, with a 4-2 mark in conference action.
