N.C.East Tennessee State defeated Campbell 7-0 Saturday
afternoon in an Atlantic Sun women's tennis match at the Nisbet
Tennis Center.
With the loss, the Lady
Camels fell to 14-4, including a 5-3 mark in conference play. East
Tennessee State improved to 8-9, with a 3-1 A-Sun mark.
Liza Bensimon and Iva
Stojancev picked up the only victory for the Lady Camels, a 9-8
doubles win over Tara Byrne and Vita Moskaliova at
number-three. The win was
the fifth-straight for the duo, who improved its doubles mark to
15-3 on the year.
Junior Scarlet Alfonzo
extended her number-one singles match to three sets, but ETSU's
Masha Ilina was able to claim the win 3-6, 6-0, 7-5.
Also forcing three sets was
junior Nina Surviladze in the six-spot singles match. Surviladze dropped the first set 1-6,
but battled back to win the second set 6-1. ETSU's Mosaliova just barely edged
Surviladze in the third set 7-6 to claim the win.
The Lady Camels look to
bounce back from the loss Tuesday, March 27 when they host North
Carolina A&T in a non-conference bout at the Nisbet Tennis
Center. Matches are scheduled to begin at 3:30.
