CREEK,
N.C.—The Campbell women's tennis team closed out its regular
season with a 6-1 victory over A-Sun foe Belmont Thursday at the
Nisbet Tennis Center.
With its fourth-straight win,
the team improved its record to 18-4, 6-3 in conference play. Belmont fell to 9-7, and 4-5 in
league action.
Four Lady Camels earned wins
in both single and doubles matches.
Scarlet Alfonzo claimed the
number-one singles match 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 over Linda Johansson. The junior improved her singles
mark to 15-2.
Alfonzo also teamed up with
freshman Blanca Saenz to win the number-one doubles match 8-5. The team's record stands at
12-7.
Saenz picked up the
number-three singles victory as well, defeating Tatiana Pozo 6-2,
2-6, 6-2 to improve her singles mark to 17-8.
Iva Stojancev and Liza
Bensimon teamed together to earn an 8-2 win at number-three
doubles. With the win, the
duo's doubles mark extended to 17-4.
Stojancev continued her
success with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over April Bradley at number-four
singles. The win was her third-straight and improved her record to
15-5 on the year.
Sophomore Bensimon picked up
her fourth-straight singles win with a 6-4, 6-2 triumph at
number-five singles.
Bensimon's record improved to 18-5.
Also earning a singles
victory for the Camels was junior Nina Surviladze. Surviladze won recorded her third win
in a row with a 6-3, 6-2 decision over Kelly Pence at
number-six. With the win,
Surviladze improved her singles record to 18-4 this
season.
Belmont's Elizabeth Conyer won the
team's only point with her 6-2, 6-0 win at the two-spot singles
match. In doubles action,
Conyer teamed with Katie Rhodes to claim the number-two bout
9-8.
The Lady Camels look to keep
the momentum rolling when they head to Johnson City, Tenn. next
Thursday, April 19 for the Atlantic Sun Championship.
