Women's Soccer Announces 12-Member Recruiting Class for '07

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Head Coach Todd Clark and the Campbell women's soccer team recently announced the addition of 12 new players, 11 freshmen and one transfer, for the 2007 season. Hanna Salmen, Annaka Simons, Mia Byggmastar, Boomie Luck, Tori Hoagland, Morgan Hodgkins, Annamarie DiTommaso, Erin Mulholland, Ashley Wagner, Alex Carrasco, Laura Griggs and Mary Trigg have all signed national letters of intent to compete for Campbell in the upcoming season.

Salmen, a midfielder/defender, hails from Mariehamn, Aland, Finland and has enjoyed success with her club team Aland United. She helped the squad to the Premier League from Division I status in just one year, with a fourth place finish capping off her team's inaugural year in the upper tier. Salmen has also been a part of the Western Finland Regional Team for two years and attended several camps with the U-18 and U-19 National Teams.

Simons will make the trek north from Bradenton, Fla. to don the CU orange and black. The defender participated as a member of the Cardinal Mooney HS team and IMG Soccer Academy Club Team, receiving the Coaches Award and being named team captain of the IMG squad. Simons comes from a soccer-rich family, as she has three siblings that played or are currently playing collegiate soccer, as her sister Asia played at Tulane, her sister Kelsey played at Rollins (Fla.) College and her brother Keenan currently plays at Hobart College in New York.

Byggmastar is the second of two Finnish midfielder/defenders coming to the Creek. As a member of the FC United club team, Byggmastar was a three-time player of the year choice and helped lead the team to a gold and silver medal in the FM league, while earning gold in the cup-games. She also played on regional and national teams for Finland.

Luck has had perhaps the most team success among the CU recruits, helping East Davidson HS to a state championship in 2005. She earned four all-conference nods as a goalkeeper, including being named conference player of the year in 2006. Her Greensboro Twisters club team also won several championships, as she was a member of four State Cup championship teams and a national tournament qualifying team in 2005.

Hoagland, a forward from Garland, Texas, was a fixture on her FC Dallas club team, playing on the team for eight seasons. In the 2005 and 2006 seasons she led the team in goals and assists and was team captain for seven of her eight campaigns. While attending Naaman Forest High School, she was team captain, guided the Rangers to the playoffs and was the leading goal scorer in the 2006 and 2007 seasons.

Hodgkins prepped at Hickory HS in Hermitage, Pa. The forward was a four-time all-conference selection and team MVP while holding the captain's "C" for three seasons. Hodgkins holds school records for most goals in a season and a career with 39 and 92 respectively. Her efforts helped the Hornets to a state tournament berth in 2005.

DiTommaso, a goalkeeper, is the second '07 Camel recruit from Florida. The Sarasota native played on the same club team at the IMG Soccer Academy with fellow recruit Annaka Simons. The two helped lead their IMG group to the 2005 Fla. Elite Eight and Finals of the '05 Orange Classic.

Mulholland will make the short trek from Greensboro, N.C. As a midfielder/defender, Mulholland was a two-time 4A all-conference and all-region selection for the Page High Pirates. In 2006, the Mulholland-led Pirates won the Mellow Mushroom Tournament and were the Metro Conference Champions.

Wagner enjoyed a three-year stint as a starter at Colerain HS in Cincinnati, Ohio. The midfielder/forward was named Gatorade Rookie of the Year in 2005 and also played on ODP District, Regional and State teams while also being a part of the Super Y National Pool.

Carrasco is the last of the new freshmen for the '07 season. The Fort Worth, Texas native led Fossil Ridge HS to a bi-district championship in 2007 and helped her club team, the Dallas Texans, to the 2006 Lake Highland Division II championship.

Griggs is coming to CU from Currituck County HS in Barco, N.C. Playing forward, she helped lead the Knights to a third place finish in the conference during the '06 season, and was honored with All Conference and All Albemarle Area honors.

Trigg is the last of the 11 incoming recruits for Clark's Camels. Trigg transferred in at semester from Fresno State in California, where she played in 48 games in three years, starting three of those contests. A midfielder, Trigg posted one assist her freshman year for her lone point in her stint at Fresno.

Campbell finished this past season 2-14, good for ninth in the Atlantic Sun with a 2-7 conference record.
