GAINESVILLE, Fla.Campbell senior
Alicia Valtin finished sixth in the 3000 meter steeplechase at the
NCAA East Regional Saturday at the University of Florida.
Valtin missed an
automatic berth in the NCAA Championships by one spot, but posted
the best non-qualifying mark in all four regionals and will wait
until Tuesday to see if she receives an at-large spot in the
national meet.
The Sanford, N.C.
native crushed her own school record by over 10 seconds crossing
the line in a time of 10:14.63; her old school record mark was
10:24.72, which she set at the Penn Relays on April 26.
Duke's Liz Wort won
with a time of 9:52.34 beating out Barbara Parker from Florida
State by almost a minute.
Valtin entered the meet
ranked 12th in the region.
Valtin's teammate Sam
Tilly earned a spot in the NCAA Championships Friday night becoming
Campbell's first-ever regional champion winning the long jump.
The NCAA Championships
are June 6-9 in Sacramento, Calif. on the campus of Sacramento
State University.
