BUIES CREEK,
N.C.Campbell senior Jessica Huffman was named to the North
Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA)
University Division All-State Softball Team for the
second-consecutive year the association announced Wednesday.
Huffman currently ranks
seventh in the nation in stolen bases per game averaging 0.68 and
is tied for fifth in the nation with 46 steals.
The Cornelius, N.C.
native is tied for 27th all-time in NCAA history with
116 career stolen bases, which is the Campbell and Atlantic Sun
career record. She ranks in the top 10 in 12 career offensive
categories in Fighting Camel history.
Huffman broke the
Campbell single-season stolen base record with her 46 this season;
the total ranked third in A-Sun history. She finished the season
second in the conference with 47 runs scored, which ranked fourth
in Campbell history.
She hit safely in all
four of Campbell's A-Sun Tournament games lifting the fifth-seeded
Camels to a third place finish. Huffman led the Camels in runs,
slugging percentage and on-base percentage, while finishing second
in hits, batting average, doubles and home runs.
Huffman joins Kristi
Killough from Charlotte as the lone players from last year's
All-State Team to repeat the feat this season. North Carolina
State's Abbie Sims was named to the team in 2005, but did not make
the list last year.
The squads consist of
students from NCAA Division I colleges and universities throughout
the state. North Carolina sports information professionals
submitted nominees and NCCSIA members selected the two-five student
teams. All students involved with ties in the voting process are
included on the all-state squad.
Founded in 2002, NCCSIA is comprised of sports information
professionals from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent
institutions from the state of North Carolina. The organization
seeks to promote collegiate athletics and student-athletes at all
schools. Membership is open to anyone affiliated with a college,
university or conference located in North Carolina, and whose area
of responsibility lies within sports information.
NCSSIA selects all-state teams for men's and women's soccer,
volleyball, men's and women's basketball, softball and baseball on
the College (Division II, III, NAIA) and University (Division I)
levels. More than 400 student-athletes have been recognized on
all-state teams since 2003.
