Wilson, N.C. So you are Brandon
Scott. In four games you have come within two outs of tossing a
no-hitter, nearly hit for the cycle, hit your first home run of
your Tobs career, and driven in six runs total and scored 4 more.
What else can you do? How about close?
Scott was 2-4 in with a run
scored and an RBI, not to mention the team's first save of the
season, as the Tobs won their third straight, 4-2 over the
Spartanburg Stingers. When asked about his great week after the
ballgame, Scott had just this to say: "I just play."
Jeff Steele had more sweeping
praise for his versatile star (a rising senior at Campbell
University, who hails from Robersonville, N.C.).
"Every team in this league
wishes they had nine Brandon Scott's. And if they did, they might
win every night."
The Tobs winning streak was
the only one extended on Friday night. Dan Houston pitched 8 1/3
innings, extending the streak of Tobs starters lasting at least
seven innings to 11 games; a streak that the Tobs starters have
noticed.
"We're all just a bunch of
competitors. Everybody wants to keep [the streak] going," said
Houston.
Houston struck out 9 Stingers and
improved his record to 2-0, allowing just 1 earned run, the first
he has allowed this season. The win also snapped Spartanburg's
winning streak of six games.
"Dan has been nothing short
of phenomenal for us," said Steele. "He changes velocity so well
that he always keeps hitters off-balance."
The win moved the Tobs into
sole possession of first place, 1 game ahead of the Peninsula
Pilots.
The Wilson Tobs are a member
franchise of the Coastal Plain League. With fifteen teams in the
Carolinas and Virginia, the league attracts top players from
collegiate programs throughout the country. Playing home games at
Historic Fleming Stadium, the 2007 Tobs' home schedule resumes
Wednesday, June 20th against the Petersburg Generals.
