CHARLESTON, S.C.- Freshman Michelle Dennis scored three goals to
lift Charleston Southern to a 5-1 exhibition victory over Campbell,
Saturday afternoon (Aug. 18) at Buccaneer Stadium.
Campbell
junior Amanda Murphy opened the scoring in the 28th
minute with an unassisted goal that deflected off the hands of
Buccaneer goalkeeper Alyssa Budros. The stingy goalkeeper would not allow
another goal for the rest of the match.
Charleston Southern quickly answered when forward Michelle Dennis
beat freshman goalie Boomie Luck for her first score of the
day. Dennis continued to
pace CSU in the second half when she found the right corner of the
goal with a left-footed blast, giving the Buccaneers a lead they
would hold on to.
Dennis scored her third and final goal of the day to extend CSU's
lead to 3-1 off Lindsey Trexler's assist.
Sarah
Catenacci and Caitlin Wesnesky both added goals for the Buccaneers,
while Trexler finished with two assists.
Boomie
Luck, a Thomasville, N.C. native, recorded five saves over 70
minutes in goal for the Camels, who were out-shot 22-5. Alex Carrasco had one shot on goal in
her Camel debut.
Campbell
continues exhibition play Monday, in Charleston, as they take on
The Citadel at 6:30 p.m. The Buccaneers conclude their preseason
schedule with a home match against Georgia Southern Friday, Aug.
24.
