DELAND, FLA.-Campbell volleyball could not convert in round two
with Stetson, falling 3-0 in their Atlantic Sun opener at the
Edmunds Center. With the win, the Hatters sweep the season series
with the Fighting Camels, 2-0, having taken the Sept. 1 matchup at
the Charleston Southern Invitational.
The Camels fall to 6-10 on the year and 0-1 in A-Sun action, while

In the last five years, the Camels have dropped their A-Sun opener
three times, with their last win coming in 2006 against Kennesaw
State in Buies Creek.

previous meeting nearly three weeks ago. With the trio of senior
outside hitter Beth Slabaugh (11 kills, 10 digs), junior outside
hitter Rebecca Orzechowicz (11 kills, 9 digs) and senior middle
blocker Gina Iacona (13 kills, 1 error, 20 attempts, hitting .600),

Femi Alabi, hitting .478 by way of 12 kills, a single error and 23
attempts. Sophomore libero Melissa Harvey tallied 17 digs on the
night, while defensive specialist Sarah Hill, another sophomore,
collected seven digs off the bench. Freshman outside hitter Emily
Werner also added seven kills in the match to go along with six
digs, a block solo and a block assist.
The first set, requiring extra points, was a battle, having the
teams deadlocked 12 different times throughout the game. Committing
only three errors in the opener, the Camels were paced by a strong
start from Alabi. The junior knocked in five kills in the game,
hitting .556. Meanwhile, the Hatters blew 19 kills past the CU
defense, six at the hand of Orzechowicz as Stetson ended up on top,
31-29.
Game two looked to be a repeat of the first, tying seven times in
the first half of the set. At 14-all, however, the Hatters reeled
off a 16-7 streak, winning the game, 30-21. Alabi added another
four kills to her nightly total, while Stetson's sophomore setter
Karla Readshaw tacked on 12 of her 39 assists, as well as three
service aces.
The match finale was highlighted by the Hatters, who doubled the
Camels up on kills (14-7) and assists (12-6). Stetson also out-hit
the Fighting Camels, .250 to -.032, a margin of .282 percentage
