Wrestling Downed by George Mason, VMI

FAIRFAX, VA.-Despite a pair of wins by sophomore Kelin Bidelspach, Campbell wrestling fell to VMI, 21-14, and George Mason, 38-12, Saturday afternoon at the Fieldhouse.

"I'm very proud of the way Kelin wrestled today," said Campbell head coach Billy Greene. "He has gotten better through the month and is prepared to have a good CAA Duals. Jake Fose is another guy who, each time he steps on the mat, he gets better and better. He looked good and I was really happy."

The Fighting Camels fall to 0-7 in dual matches this season with the losses, while GMU at 5-2, goes undefeated on the day, and VMI moves to 4-2 with a split.

Bidelspach, a 141 pounder from Hanover, Pa., notched a 5-2 decision over VMI's Tyler Anthony in CU's first match of the day before grabbing his fourth pin of the year over Will Powers of George Mason, clocking the fall at 3:46. With the wins, Bidelspach extends his overall record to 12-2 with a 6-1 dual mark.

Fose, meanwhile, split a pair of bouts on the day, as the 157 pound freshman defeated Keydet Vince Cole, 11-0, and was edged by Mason's Jimmy Kaden, 4-3.

Junior Kyle Higgins at 184 and freshman Parker Burns at 197 also picked up splits on the day, downing VMI's Curtis Moore and Ronnie Ellsworth respectively, before falling to a couple of Mason grapplers.

Senior heavyweight Rob Yoder picked up a forfeit win against the Patriots for Campbell's final match of the afternoon.

"Mason came with a really tough squad, as we knew they would," said Greene. "Overall, I think it was a missed opportunity against VMI, but, we're still trying to find that consistency from 125 to heavyweight. We'll try to go back and work, getting ready for the CAA Duals next weekend."

The Fighting Camels will head back to Fairfax next weekend, coming back to the Fieldhouse for the CAA Duals on Jan. 18 and 19.
