BUIES CREEK, N.C. Florida Gulf Coast's starting five
combined for 51 points and the Eagles defeated Campbell 78-44 on
Monday evening at Carter Gym.
Senior Delia De La
Torre scored a game-high 16 points to lead the starting five.
Senior guard Chelsea Dermyer had an impressive all-around
performance with 14 points, five rebounds and eight assists.
Sophomore Adrianna McNally chipped in 11, while senior Ashley
Haegele tallied 10 points.
The Eagles (10-7, 5-2
A-Sun) hit 12-of-24 threes on evening with freshman Shannon Murphy
hitting five on her way to 15 points off the bench.
After falling down by
seven in the early going, CU was able to fight back to within three
on a good tip-in from redshirt sophomore Gara
Bell at 12-9. The Eagles then went on a 17-2 run to break
the game open on their way to halftime lead of 45-18.
Campbell (8-12, 3-4 A-Sun) started the second half strong
with junior Jessica Mack collected
back-to-back steals and layups. The Eagles, after a timeout,
stormed back and went on a 19-2 run to have the lead reach 40
(64-24) for the first time.
CU was able to avoid
their lowest point total of the season when redshirt sophomore
Lieset Van Den Heuvel hit a layup and
jumper in the final two minutes to make the final margin 78-44.

Lynisha Ochogu led the offensive attack
for Campbell with eight points. Freshman Lauren
Yesh had a steady performance with seven points and seven
rebounds.
The Camels shot 30
percent for the game (19-of-63). Florida Gulf Coast shot 55 percent
for the game (27-for-49).
Both teams had
problems from the line as Campbell went 2-for-7 (29 percent) with
Florida Gulf Coast only going 12-for-19 (63 percent) from the
charity stripe.
CU now heads to
Jacksonville to take on North Florida on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 2
p.m.
