CREEK, N.C. Campbell's football program (1-6, 0-4 PFL) makes
its second to last road trip of the season with a journey to Iowa
to take on Drake (2-4, 0-3 PFL) on Oct. 18 at 1 p.m. cdt at Drake
Stadium.
The
Camels and Bulldogs have faced each other once before in a major
team sports (m/w basketball, m/w soccer, softball, baseball and
volleyball). The match-up came on the softball diamond with the
softball team falling to Drake by a 4-0 score in 1992. All-time in
those same major team sports,
Campbell is 63-57-3 (.516) against schools that start with the
letter D'. The most wins come from the men's baseball team
with 16, while the highest winning percentage has been registered
by the softball team at .857 (12-2 record).
Drake
battle Dayton tough in Ohio over the weekend. The game was a one
score game going into the second half only to see the Flyers thwart
the upset attempt with 20 points in the second half for a 27-9
victory. Drake was attempting to become the first team to ever
defeat Dayton three straight times at Welcome Stadium dating back
to 1974. Junior running back Steve Platek, who caught
nine passes for 71 yards against the Flyers, has been the Drake's
best receiver this season and has 23 catches for 269 yards and
three touchdowns. Senior receiver Spencer Cady leads the team
in receiving yards and ranks seventh in the conference in the
category (286 yards). Defensively, Cale Hunt and Cole Douglas are a
tough duo with 28.5 tackles each. The kicking game for Drake has
been noteworthy as well with Logan Rees leading the
conference in field goals made per game (1.50) and punter Brandon Wubs leading
the league in average (41.1). As a team the Bulldogs are one of the
stingiest teams in the league are only giving up 275 yards a
game.
The
Camels are looking for their first Pioneer Football League win and
are led by C.J.
Oates, whose 235 yards rushing leads the team. Oates
scored the first touchdown of his career on a 19-yard reception
against Butler over the weekend. Defensive back Donte' Washington comes
into the Drake game ranked tied for second nationally with five
interceptions.
Campbell's
football program will have a bye next week before retuning home for
Homecoming against Davidson (2-3, 1-2 PFL) on November 1.
