BUIES CREEK, N.C. Campbell's football program (1-8, 0-6 PFL)
hosts the final home game of 2008 with a contest against Valparaiso
(2-7, 1-5 PFL) on Saturday, Nov. 15 at noon at Barker-Lane Stadium.
Both teams come into the game riding a four-game skid.
The Camels and Crusaders only share a brief history.
Campbell defeated Valparaiso by a 3-1 score on the softball diamond
in 1998. The softball team remains the only team to have played
against Valparaiso and have a 4-1all-time record against VU. In the
major team sports of m/w soccer, baseball, m/w basketball, softball
and volleyball, Campbell is 40-65 all-time against schools that
start with the letter "V". The best winning percentage of all the
team's belongs to the women's soccer team (.714). The baseball team
has captured the most overall wins with 11.
Valparaiso
fell
over the weekend at home to Jacksonville by a 40-24 margin. The
Crusaders were hanging with the Dolphins and only trailed 20-16
late in the second quarter before seeing Jacksonville score the
next three touchdowns. VU did outgained JU 358 to 351 for the game
including 192 yards on the ground. Ross Wiemer had 73 yards
rushing and a touchdown to lead the squad. Wiemer has had an
outstanding season with 655 yards rushing (2nd in the
conference) and nine touchdowns (t-4th in the PFL). As a
team the Crusaders lead the Pioneer Football League with 167.3
rushing yards a game. Defensively, Valparaiso is tied for third in
the conference in interceptions with 12, while ranking second in
turnover margin (+5). Junior defensive back Anthony Curry is tied for
the conference lead with five interceptions. Valpo's senior

The Camels are looking for their first Pioneer Football League win
and are led by C.J.
Oates, whose 279 yards rushing leads the team. Defensive
back Donte'
Washington comes into the weekend second in the nation in
interceptions per game (0.77), while also tying for the conference
lead the Pioneer Football League with five interceptions.
Campbell's football team remains in the thick of attendance race in
the PFL and currently rank third in the league with an average of
4,062 fans per game.
The day will be packed full of home Campbell athletic events. After
the football game concludes the men's soccer team will host the
finals of the Atlantic Sun Soccer Championship at 3 p.m. at the
Eakes Athletic Complex. The men's and women's basketball team will
open the John W. Pope Jr. Convocation Center with games as well.
The women are set to square off against Coker at 6 p.m., while the
men have Chowan lined up for an 8:15 p.m. tip.
Next, Campbell's football program goes on the final road trip of
the season and heads to Morehead State to take on the Eagles (4-6,
2-4 PFL) at 1 p.m. on Nov. 22 at Jayne Stadium.
