Football's Milton Brown Highlighted in SI's 'Faces in The Crowd' Section

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell University redshirt freshman linebacker Milton Brown was highlighted in the latest edition (Nov. 17, 2008) of Sports Illustrated's "Faces in the Crowd" section (page 26) for his exceptional play in Campbell's win earlier this season over Carthage College.

Brown had an outstanding performance for Campbell in the thrilling 36-27 win over Carthage on Sept. 27 with the first three interceptions of his career. He also was able to return two of his three picks for touchdowns in the victory. The win was the first for Campbell since they restarted the football program this season after a 58 year absence.

Brown's final interception of the evening was with Carthage driving on the CU five-yard in the final four minutes and only down by two at 29-27. He came up with CU's biggest play of the season in picking off the Evan Jones slant attempt and returned it 99 yards for the game-clinching touchdown to seal the victory. For Brown it was his second touchdown return of the game and his third interception of a standout individual effort.

He began his evening by returning his first interception 32 yards for a second quarter touchdown to give Campbell a 14-0 lead the midway through the quarter. He then picked off his second pass of the game in the third quarter and returned it 14 yards to thwart another Red Men drive.

His two interceptions returned for touchdowns tied the Football Championship Series (FCS) single-game record, while his three interceptions and 145 return yards are both bests in the FCS this season.

The redshirt freshman linebacker from Havelock, N.C. also recorded four tackles and led the team with 145 all-purpose yards, all on his interception returns. For his play he was also honored as the Pioneer Football League's Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 29.

On the season, Brown leads the team and ranks sixth in the conference with his 69 tackles. He is second in the conference in solo stops with 41, while also ranking among the conference leaders in sacks and interceptions.

Campbell's football program completes its home schedule was a noon game against Valparaiso on Nov. 15 before making the final road trip of the season to Morehead State to take on the Eagles (4-6, 2-4 PFL) at 1 p.m. on Nov. 22 at Jayne Stadium.
