BUIES
CREEK, N.C. Campbell University head softball coach Drew Peterson recently announced the signing of
two high school players during the early signing period.
North
Carolina native Sarah Forgacs (Cary,
N.C./Green Hope) and Virginia resident Brittany
Arnn (Danville, Va./Tunstall) will join the Fighting
Camels during the 2009-10 school year.
"We
certainly are excited to have Brittany and Sarah join the Campbell
softball family," Coach Peterson explained. "They both have a very
strong competitive drive, a high level of personal character and a
desire to succeed in the classroom. These attributes are qualities
we do not take lightly and have been a staple that God has used to
bring unity to our team and a lot of success on and off the
field."
Forgacs
arrives at Campbell following a decorated athletic career at Green
Hope High School in Cary, N.C. Through her junior season on the
softball diamond the shortstop has a career batting average of .589
to go along with 78 runs scored, 106 hits, 11 doubles, three home
runs and 80 stolen bases. A three-time all-county selection, she
also made all-conference as a sophomore and as a junior. During her
junior softball season Forgacs was named her team's MVP, while also
garnering an all-state selection and a berth for her team in the
state playoffs when she totaled a .660 batting average (top three
in the state) to go along with 33 hits, 33 runs scored, 22 walks
and an astounding 47 stolen bases in 48 attempts.
An
outstanding individual athlete, Forgacs also was a four-year
varsity libero starter for the Falcons' volleyball team and led the
squad to a top-eight finish in the state playoffs three of her four
years. She also has been the starting point guard for the
basketball team in each of the last two seasons and qualified for
state during the 2008 indoor track & field season, while aiding
to set the school-record in the 4x400 relay.
The
high school senior stays active in the local community by working
as a counselor in training at the YMCA and being employed as a
sports official and clinic instructor with the town of Morrisville.
She is the daughter of Kathy and Scott Forgacs of Cary, N.C., and
has a younger brother, Michael. Following her anticipated 2013
graduation from Campbell the future pre-law major has aspiration of
attending graduate school before taking her chosen career path.
"Sarah
may be the fastest player I will have coached," Peterson explained.
"Her speed mixed with her slap game on offense will make her a
great weapon in our lineup, and her ability to play many positions
in the field will give us a lot of options towards putting our best
team on the field."
Arnn,
a native of Danville, Va., comes to Campbell as the first Division
I softball scholarship recipient from Tunstall High School in the
last 25 years.
An
outstanding scholar-athlete she was named the 2008 Chemistry
Student of the Year, 2008 AP US History Student of the Year and the
2008 Advanced English II Student of the Year.
The
multi-sport star has also earned a letter playing for the
volleyball team, where she was honorable mention all-Metro as a
sophomore.
The
left-handed pitcher, who already owns the Tunstall softball team
record with 549 career strikeouts and is ranked third in her
graduating class with a 4.423 grade-point average, led the Trojans
to the Group AA state championship game as a junior last season and
the state semifinals as a sophomore.
Arnn
has been named an all-Piedmont District, all-Region IV and a Register & Bee All-Metro first-team selection
each of the last three seasons in the circle and is a first-team
all-state pitcher. She was named the Piedmont District and the
Region IV Pitcher of the Year following her sophomore season, while
also being named the All-Metro Softball Pitcher of the Year by The Register & Bee that season.
Even
before throwing a pitch her senior season, Arnn owns a 52-10 career
record and an amazing 0.32 ERA in her first three seasons at
Tunstall. She also has proven to be a difficult out in the batters
box with a career batting average of .362, a .492 on-base
percentage, 68 RBIs and 60 runs scored. Of Arnn's 80 career hits 32
have gone for extra bases including five home runs, nine triples
and 18 doubles.
She
is the daughter of Bet and Carroll Arnn Jr. of Danville, Va., and
has an older sister, Amanda. Arnn intends to major in kinesiology
or pre-physical therapy and attend physical therapy school upon
graduation.
"I
expect Brittany to cause opposing hitter a lot of difficulty,"
Peterson stated. "She is a left-handed pitcher with great movement
and she should compete well for us as a power hitter and a steady
first baseman."
The
Fighting Camel program went 42-25 overall record in 2008, sweeping
the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament in the process, all while
setting school records for runs scored (350), hits (511), doubles
(100), runs batted in (325), home runs (64) and on-base percentage
(.382).
